If you own a caravan then which type of caravan insurance you take out will depend on the type of caravan you use.
With caravan insurance there is not just one type, like car insurance which covers a car. Caravan insurance will vary depending on whether your caravan is a touring caravan or a static caravan.
Over the years caravan insurance has evolved for each type so that the relevant caravan insurance covers the relevant type of caravan.
Static caravans are, as their name implies, static and stationary and are usually sited on a caravan park or caravan site. Your caravan insurance for your static caravan will need cover for flooding and also theft of personal belongings within the static caravan.
You can also obtain ‘new for old’ cover on your caravan insurance and this provides cover in case your caravan gets written off, such as your static caravan being severely damaged by storms or floods. Most caravan insurance will only provide this protection within their caravan insurance for caravans up to five years old. If your caravan is older than five years old, then you may be able to add this additional cover to your current caravan insurance but at a additional fee.
Touring caravans usually attract higher caravan insurance premiums due to the added risk of them being used on the road and all the extra risks such usage incurs, such as accidents and collisions and every other type of risk associated with using the road or highway.
An essential additional cover any user should obtain on their caravan insurance if they intend going abroad with their touring caravan is for emergency accommodation. If you are abroad and your touring caravan becomes written off, then without this additional cover on your caravan insurance you will suddenly become homeless. Obviously this extra cover on your caravan insurance will carry an additional premium but think of the hassle you would encounter without it if the worse did happen.
Like most caravan insurance policies that are purchased the buyer hopefully will never use it. There cannot be many products, like caravan insurance, whereby the customer buys something hoping never to use it!
