I work for a company called Skip Hire UK and have done for several years now. Skip Hire UK are a great company to work for and how they kept me on after what I did I don’t know.
It all started a couple of years ago when we had a promotion on skip hire at work, we were running adverts for the cheapest skip hire, the deal was that we would not be beaten on price and if anyone found a skip hire price cheaper than ours we would match the price and give them a money off voucher for the next time they hired a skip.
The adverts were really working and we were busier than we could of ever imagined, part of my job as office manager was to ensure everywhere was locked up at night and being one of the only two key holders to the company offices I found that quite a responsibility to be given. The day the unfortunately event happened my boss was away on holiday, cruising the Caribbean for two weeks with his new wife, it started off as a normal day I unlocked the office turned everything on in time before all the other office staff came in and the drivers came to collect the keys for the skip lorry they had been assigned to that day.
Whilst the kettle was boiling I got my keys and went to open the key store that kept all the skip lorry keys locked up, I put the key in the keyhole and turned the key but nothing happened, I tried taking it out and putting it back in again several times and turning it but still nothing happened, finally I put the key in again but this time as I turned it instead of the doors on the key safe opening the key broke off in the lock. The key safe was built in such a way that no one could break in to it and it would take a locksmith to open the key safe, by this time all the drivers were turning up waiting for their keys for the skip lorries there was nothing I could do except telephone an emergency locksmith, two hours later we finally got into the key safe, an hour after most of the skips were due to be at the customers houses. I told the skip lorry drivers to tell the truth and blame it on the blond in the office that broke the key off in the lock because it was the wrong key she was trying to open it with in the first place, oops I am dreading the day we do the cheapest skip hire promotion again, I might go on holiday myself instead..
